Today, I attended a workshop in which I had to imagine myself as a character. I tried to create characters with the influence of Lauren Child's collage techniques, Quentin Blake's expressive scribbles and Winnie The Pooh's softness. I also made sure I used my favourite mediums: watercolour and pencils. I had a lot of fun playing with form and using the papercuts to put my characters in funny poses. I hope they can capture my creativity and my clumbsy enthusiasm.
Cutting up my characters and their accessories gave me a lot of freedom and the opportunity to explore more options. I could have done it digitally but I liked the handmade look, and in this case going traditional actually saved me a lot of time.
I noticed a forest theme was traveling through all my designs so in the end, I decided to turn them into a sticker sheet. I made sure to include characters and accessories so the child (or adult) playing with them could also get creative.
