This month, I've been learning new skills in Cinema 4D like how to composite a 2D background in 3D. I like being able to mix 3D and 2D because I think it's visually interesting. Some animated show like The Amazing life of Gumball very much embrace the contrast between the two techniques.
I prefer my work to be more homogenous but it's a challenge to make 3D blend with 2D. In Cinema 4D, the Cell Render and the Sketch & Toon feature can really help. They can add outlines to the 3D objects or make the shadows be colour blocks.
I find modelling challenging because I'm so used to drawing but it really helped to do some rough sketches before modelisation.
